Members of the infantry are ground troops that engage with the enemy in close-range combat. They operate weapons and equipment to engage and destroy enemy ground forces.
This job is typically considered to be the job in the Military that is more physically demanding and psychologically stressful than any other job. All enlisted service members complete basic military training, which includes time spent in a classroom and in the field, and covers tactical and survival skills, physical training, military life and customs, and weapons training.
While some of the training is in the classroom, most infantry training is in the field under simulated combat conditions. In reality, training for an infantry service member never stops.

Infantry soldiers are trained to engage and neutralize enemy combatants in international armed conflicts, or as peacekeepers in international interventions.
In times of peace, a soldier will spend their career honing their skills in training. When deployed, a soldier's duties may be to patrol areas for security or to seek out enemy combatants, post guard duty, conduct military attacks and defence, as well as escort and engage in protective duties.
Infantry have the opportunity, where available, to train for specialized roles within their armed service, such as a sniper, in reconnaissance, special forces and heavy weapons. Basic military qualification - land course After Basic Training, Army recruits go to a Military Training centre for the Basic Military Qualification — Land Course for approximately one month, which covers the following topics: Army physical fitness Dismounted offensive and defensive operations Reconnaissance patrolling Individual field craft Learn more about Basic Training here.
Basic Occupational Qualification Training. The training takes 17 weeks and includes the following topics: Use and care of personal and section-level weapons, including rifles, machine guns and anti-tank weapons Field-craft, including personal hygiene and meal preparation, camouflage, sentry duties, signalling, selecting firing positions, tactical movements and lines of advance Construction of field defences, such as trenches and roadblocks, and laying and marking of minefields Navigation by day and by night Patrolling operations Infantry section and platoon tactics, including offensive, defensive and transitional operations.
