What does violent dreams mean

Spotting early warning signs of the disease may allow clinicians to monitor and treat patients long before the brain deteriorates. People with a mysterious sleep disturbance called REM sleep behavior disorder, or RBD, experience a sudden change in the nature of dreams. Dreams increasingly become more violent and frequently involve episodes in which an attacker must be fought off.

Doctors used to think of RBD as an isolated disorder. Vivid dreams are almost always associated with waking up during REM sleep when your dreams are most vivid and more easily remembered. You may also remember your vivid dream a lot easier than a typical dream. Have you had a dream about your teeth falling out, flying through the sky, or being chased? These are common themes that many people dream about. Dreaming about specific things like this could mean many things, or as some researchers believe, be completely nonsensical.

Dreams about falling or being chased may indicate experiencing anxiety or conflict, or even falling in love. Dreams about teeth falling out have been interpreted as everything from stress and big life changes, to indicating dental health issues. Everyone is doing it. By focussing on the brainstem, which for decades has been associated with dream formation, Peever was able to isolate a specific group of cells that appear to be responsible for maintaining the REM sleep. When he identified this group of cells in mice, he was able to quickly transition the animals between REM and non-REM sleep by simply turning the cells on and off. With this in mind, Peever and his team looked at how this group of cells were functioning in human RBD patients, and found that they were damaged - and that's important, because this damage appears to also be linked to the onset of neurological diseases.

While Peever's results are only preliminary and not yet peer-reviewed, they are similar to those of previous studies - and unfortunately for RBD patients, they percentages are incredibly high. In one study involving 44 RBD patients, researchers found that 82 percent of them had developed neurological disorders within 10 years of observation.

In another published that same year, of the 26 RBD patients studied, A study from found that 41 of their 43 RBD patients 95 percent had developed a range of neurological disorders.
