Who is nagato in naruto shippuden

He also viewed it above other bodies he was using, sacrificing those to protect the body that used to be Yahiko. Essentially, Yahiko was the face and body of Nagato since he could not move or battle with ease due to his injured legs. Masashi Kishimoto was known for coming up with interesting concept ideas regarding the Naruto franchise. Some were instantaneous hits while others flopped.

Some never made it past the drawing board. Kishimoto initially wanted the Akatsuki to be monster based. Yep, that meant no humans. Various monster creations did pass, such as Kisame and the plant-like Zetsu. Even the early origins for Kakuzu were based on a creature from Japanese mythology called the Kuchisake-onna creature. Eventually, things would get toned down, with Kakuzu and Sasori becoming humans instead.

In the end, this was a wise choice for Kishimoto, as it allowed him to incorporate morality and human failings into his story even more. After all, Naruto is about human growth and redemption for those who have fallen into despair and evil. There are others who have had the name before him, such as the famous ninja Fujibayashi Nagato. Kishimoto enjoyed creating adaptations out of Japanese folklore for his characters the Legendary Sannin. Kishimoto created a fantastic new world out of adaptations from real life events, people, and stories that make up the Japanese culture.

What began as a dream and passion for Yahiko, turned into something completely different under the helm of Nagato. While fandom might see the Akatsuki as villains who needed to be destroyed, Kishimoto had a much different view concerning these now famous characters.

Which is different when compared to other antagonists. Creating empathy in this manner makes for better storytelling, in that audiences care about characters on both sides. Similar story structure exists in other popular media such as Star Wars and Game of Thrones. Konan had plenty of abilities in Naruto , but the one most often overlooked is her ability as a sensor type shinobi. With this ability, Konan could detect the presence of others, usually through their chakra.

Nagato was also a skilled sensor. He could pinpoint the exact location of an individual controlling another person even if that individual put up a barrier around themselves. Those possessing its power can master any jutsu, observe the flow of chakra, and unlock unique abilities. Nagato's Rinnegan was placed within him by the villainous Madara Uchiha.

Madara, knowing his death was near, passed the power onto the young boy as part of a plan to restore himself to life. The Rinnegan set Nagato on a path that he had almost no control over: The power of the eye, combined with the machinations of Madara's minions and the immense pain that Nagato suffered throughout his life, twisted him into a fiendish mastermind.

This was very much according to Madara's plan, ensured by his underling, Tobi, who manipulated Nagato into villainy, following Yahiko's death. Nagato, in many ways, never stood a chance. Nagato didn't stay Nagato forever — eventually he became the malcontent known as Pain. But how did that transition come about?

Nagato and his companions trained under Jiraiya for years. Empowered by the Rinnegan, Nagato mastered everything he was taught with ease, and in time, the trio set out on their own, eager to make the world a better place.

They formed the Akatsuki, led by Yahiko, an organization dedicated to ending war and promoting peace. Their ranks swelled quickly — they were far from alone in being tired of endless war — and in no time, they had become a formidable power that had to be listened to. Hanzo, leader of Amegakure, took particular notice. Hanzo offered to work with the Akatsuki, and organized a meeting to discuss an arrangement. It was an ambush, however — Hanzo and his forces captured Konan, threatening to kill her if Nagato did not kill Yahiko.

Yahiko took the decision out of Nagato's hands by impaling himself on Nagato's kunai. Nagato is utterly disillusioned by the attack, and comes to regard his previous, peaceful ideals as naive.

Accordingly, he renamed himself Pain, and shifted the Akatsuki's goals: Now, the group was dedicated to bringing so much suffering upon the world, it would have no choice but to work towards peace. Pain, newly cynical and massively powerful, took over Amegakure, killing Hanzo and all who supported him. But in rescuing Konan from Hanzo, he had lost the use of his legs and became a recluse, mastering a technique that allowed him to control corpses as macabre puppets to carry out his bidding.

His power over the village, combined with his life in hiding and unsettling powers, cast a spell over the people of Amegakure — they began to treat Pain as a god. His aesthetic choices furthered this deification: Pain spent most of his life ensconced within a wooden altar. Every Sunday, he made it rain in Amegakure, and kept news of Hanzo's death from making it way into the wider world.

Beyond their borders, people believed Amegakure to be locked within a never-ending civil war. But Pain was not as all-powerful as he appeared to be. Though the people living under his reign were utterly ignorant of this, he was secretly being controlled by the malicious Tobi to further the goals of the new Akatsuki. Pain maintained his terrifying control over the recently deceased through a technique known as The Six Paths of Pain. But the names of the Six Paths are far from fantasy.

Each of the six paths are named for and based around the six Buddhist paths of reincarnation : the Deva, Asura, Human, Animal, Preta and Naraka paths. Itachi interrupts him with Susanoo , releasing Naruto and B. Needing to deal with all three at once, Kabuto has Nagato use Chibaku Tensei. Itachi, Naruto, and B simultaneously use their strongest long-range attacks to destroy the growing planetoid. As Kabuto's attentions are distracted by its destruction, Itachi stabs him with Susanoo's Sword of Totsuka , which also restores his consciousness to him.

Nagato apologises to Naruto for not only this fight after death, but his actions during life, believing his story was unworthy of following Jiraiya's. He expresses his hope that Naruto's story will conclude so spectacularly that nobody will remember the disappointment of his own.

He bids farewell as his body is sealed. Tobi feels personally betrayed when he learns that Nagato gave his life to revive the villagers of Konoha, believing the Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique should have been reserved exclusively for his Eye of the Moon Plan.

He is also confused, believing Nagato to have been very firm in his convictions and thus not likely to give up so willingly. He tracks down Naruto not long after Nagato's death and asks him what he could have said to sway Nagato, but is unmoved by Naruto's claim that Nagato truly did desire peace.

With Nagato gone, Tobi is forced to seek out his corpse and take his Rinnegan to fulfil his ultimate plans. When he finds Nagato smiling at him, he interprets it as if Nagato is continuing to mock him even in death. Konan followed through with Nagato's change of heart, vowing hers and Amegakure's cooperation with Naruto in his future pursuits of peace.

She takes Nagato's and Yahiko's bodies back to Amegakure and creates a secret shrine for them, laying their bodies on beds of flowers. She breaks away from the Akatsuki that Tobi has corrupted, trying to fight for the ideals that the organisation originally represented. She tries to kill Tobi when he comes looking for Nagato's Rinnegan, only to die herself after being forced to reveal the location of Nagato's body. Naruto is deeply affected by his encounter with Nagato and is compelled to start trying to achieve peace and end the ongoing desires for revenge between ninja.

He forgives Nagato for all the missteps he took during his life, thinking of him with as high a regard as he thinks of Jiraiya. In almost all of the above-listed games, it is one or more of the Six Paths of Pain that is playable. Typically it is only the Deva Path that is playable, with the other Paths appearing as part of its moveset.

The games that Nagato himself is actually playable in are Ultimate Ninja Storm 3 , Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution , and Ultimate Ninja Storm 4 , where his reincarnated, restored vitality form is available. In Sha no Sho , Kishimoto briefly explains the philosophy behind Pain's design, stating, "He's Akatsuki's leader, so he has to look fairly cool, but I still wanted him to look dangerous. Since his name is 'Pain', I decided to add some piercings to his body, like he's the kind of guy who would inflict pain upon himself".

Notable among the few unused concept designs is a small sketch in which Pain appears to wear a partial mask and feather, or horn-like accessories fitted to his forehead protector. Naruto x Boruto: Ninja Voltage. Nagato is an incredibly powerful fighter, even above the Five Kage the lords of the five Great Ninja Nations, numbering among the mightiest ninjas in the world.

It must be noted though that Jiraiya might have won if he knew the secret of the Six Paths of Pain. His large array of abilities makes him as versatile and unpredictable as he is formidable, and he is immensely strong, fast, spry and skilled with weapons and martial arts. As a member of the Uzumaki Clan, Nagato is gifted with exceptionally vast amounts of extremely powerful chakra.

Nagato's Rinnegan is actually that of Madara Uchiha , who transplanted it into Nagato's eyes without his knowledge. Because the Rinnegan is not truly his, Nagato cannot use the Rinnegan at the same level as Madara can. It enables its wielder to channel their chakra through Chakra Receivers.

The wielder can control everyone and everything infused with their chakra, alive or dead, to perceive what they see and hear and to transmit it through their other "puppets" and to speak through them. The Outer Path also enables its wielder to conjure chains of ethereal energy that can bind anything and anyone they touch and suppress their powers. In spite of his perfect mastery of the Rinnegan, Nagato did not have access to the fullest extent of its power, something he is perfectly aware of.

Madara Uchiha for instance was able to cast two formidable spells: the Tengan Shinsei Divine Quaking Star which conjures incredibly destructive, skyscraper-sized meteors, and the Limbo Hengoku Limbo Border Jail which conjures up to five immensely powerful clones of the caster that cannot be detected without powers similar to the caster's own and move independently for a defined amount of time. Other users of the Rinnegan were able to teleport where they can see and open gates toward other dimensions, to create and transform all sort of objects and weapon made of red energy, and to absorb an attack and fire it back or use it as a power boost.

Tobi has stated that the Rinnegan is so powerful that he himself cannot bear its full power. This titanic, otherworldly statue is in fact the shell of the Ten-Tailed Beast , the Primal Demon from the beginning of times that the Sage of the Six Paths sealed into the moon.

Wielders of the Rinnegan can summon it and use its power as a fuel, or summon it for warring purposes. The more Tailed Beasts it absorbs, the mightier it becomes. It is absolutely gigantic, standing over 50 meters tall, and has incredible strength and surprising speed. It can fire Chakra Rods and the Outer Path's chains of ethereal energy. It can also unleash many dragon-like spirits that rip out the soul of anyone they touch and absorb it, killing the victim.

At its most powerful, the Statue can unleash devastating, blasting shockwaves or huge bolts of energy that rain down on its targets. As if all of the above was not enough, the Rinnegan grants its wielder six powers known as the Six Paths.

Nagato was the only wielder of the Rinnegan to master all six. He was able to use at least two at the same time and to switch between one and another within seconds, enabling him to face all types of foes at once. Due to his crippled state, Nagato uses these powers through his signature Six Paths of Pain.

He remotely controls six corpses, each wielding one of the six powers and using it as its name. Nagato can use one to six of them indiscriminately, but he needs to be close to transmit his chakra. The closer he is, the more they can use their power. Nagato always acts through them using the alias "Pain", and regards them as separate entities or vessels. When fighting together, the six can combine their powers, protect one another, and overwhelm their foes.

They all display incredible fighting skills. Being roughly as good fighters as Nagato himself, and being impossible to catch by surprise due to sharing their vision, they prove absolutely formidable in battle.

However, after being resurrected Nagato has proven able to use their powers at an even higher-level. Nagato used this Path on a daily basis, practically living through it. Because of this, this Path was the only one seen using other spells and techniques than the special power it was granted, and likely the only one able to do so.
