Both sides of the coin are capable of self-condemnation. Why are you always withdrawing? This is pride! Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humility is caring for the sheep on the back side of the mountain when no one else is around to see.
Only one time in all the Scriptures does Jesus describe his character. Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human Having become human, he stayed human.
It was an incredibly humbling process. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a brutal crucifixion. Humility exhibits the attitude of John the Baptist when he was confronted with the fact that Jesus was baptizing more than he was!
John pointed the way to Jesus … many times he revealed that he was proud and humbled to pave the way for the Messiah. She prays earnestly for others. She constantly affirms and encourages those around her. Now, at the age of 90, Doris still leads prayer meetings for our church and attends every Sunday without fail. When I see Doris, I see Jesus. Samantha, your son should always know you are proud of him!
Affirm him. Encourage him. Love him unconditionally. But as he grows up, teach him to be selfless and humble. Yet, though pride is the chief of sins, it, too, can be forgiven. God humbled himself by becoming man, by suffering the indignity of death, by bearing the sin of humanity.
The humble substituted himself for the proud. Christ humbled himself so he could rightly be exalted. He humbled himself so we, too, can be exalted. But our exaltation first requires humility. Reaching high first requires going low. The hope of proud humanity is humble faith in the humble Savior.

The eyes are the windows into pride. Pride is the original sin that goes all the way back to the Garden of Eden. Man wanted to be like God notice the pride more than he wanted to be with God.
He looked down on God. A lying tongue : A lying tongue is a reminder that all words count. All words have consequences and that all our words will be judged by God. This is why in Proverbs we are warned: life and death are in the power of the tongue. When we lie, we trample on the greatness and dignity that God has placed in all humans.
But to shed innocent blood is to take the life of one who has done nothing worthy of death. God loves and wants us to protect the innocent. A heart that devises wicked schemes : Throughout Scripture, God reminds us that He alone searches the heart.
God knows what we think and he sees the plans and purposes that are conceived in the souls of all people.
